DRIFT DIVER This course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. The drift diver course will help the student gain an understanding of some of the skills, knowledge, and hazards of diving in strong currents. The different types of currents are discussed, as well as some of the specialized equipment and techniques used during drift dives. Skills include buoyancy control, safety sausage deployments, in-water safety stops, communications, and more. Course includes 2 boat dives, safety sausage, computer. *Course fee: $95.00. Special group rates are available. UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY This course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. One of the our most creative courses is that of Underwater Photographer. You will be introduced to the world of taking photographs under water using some of the latest still photo equipment available. Don't let this phrase fool you, though, since the principles of light, shadow, film, and exposure control will apply to any camera system, whether it is a simple disposable camera in a housing, or a top-of-the-line amphibious camera system. Course includes use of Sealife camera system. The two dives done for the course will let you use both the close-up and standard lens on your dives. *Course fee: $85.00. DEEP DIVER The PADI Deep Diver course familiarizes divers with the skills, knowledge, procedures, techniques, and hazards of diving between depths of 60 to 130 feet. This is not a course for learning how to do decompression dives. We do, however, talk about proper equipment for deep dives, review the symptoms of nitrogen narcosis, decompression sickness, and flying after diving recommendations. The use and practicality of dive computers while making deep dives is extensively covered. The three dives done for certification are all at varying depth, gradually acclimating the participant to different and deeper depths. This course is also strongly recommended for anyone interested in the PADI Wreck Diver Course. The course includes 2 boat dives and the use of a dive computer. *Course fee: $175.00. Special group rates are available. WRECK DIVERS SPECIALTY COURSE This course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. During the PADI Wreck Diver course, you will make four open water dives, each with a purpose to help you be more confident when making future wreck dives. You will learn such techniques as navigating on a wreck, mapping wrecks, how to use lines for penetration, actual wreck penetration techniques, anti-silting procedures, proper equipment for wreck diving, limited visibility diving techniques, emergency procedures, and where to find more historical information on various shipwrecks. This course is one of most popular at our facility, since the area around our location offers an extensive variety of shipwrecks. They are all at various depths, so even beginning wreck divers will find dive sites well within their limitations. Course includes at least 2 boat dives, penetration lines and reels, pony bottles. Wreck diving specialty course dives on either the Tokai Maru, SMS Cormoran, American Tanker, and Japanese Val Bomber. *Course fee: $175. Special group rates are available. BOAT DIVER SPECIALTY COURSE This course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. Boat divers are a different breed, and this course teaches you everything you'll want to know about diving on a variety of small and large boats. The course is taught both prior to going on a boat trip (not included) and on the boat. This CDC course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. This course provide divers with a basic knowledge of dive boats operations, both small and large boats. Included is proper boat diving etiquette, personal conduct, basic dive boat terminology, local boat diving laws and/or ordinances. The class concentrates on performing important boat diving skills-boat diving entries and exits, use of emergency and safety equipment, and basic boating skills. Course is taught by 100 ton licensed boat captains/instructors. *Course fee: $65. Special group rates are available. UNDERWATER NATURALIST COURSE How many of you would like to know what that pretty little yellow fish is? Or that red and white striped shrimp? This class is for you! You'll be looking for and identifying plants as well as fish and invertebrate creatures. Think of it as an underwater scavenger hunt for marine life. Fish ID cards, slates, Reef fish books and sheets will be included for your use during the class. This course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. 2 dives are required and for the price of $75.00*, you'll get the PADI Specialty and a 2 tank boat dive. Now you'll know what that pretty little yellow fish is! Special group rates are available. SEARCH & RECOVERY COURSE Have you or your friends ever lost something in the water and wished you had a way to find and recover it? The Search and Recovery Specialty consists of 4 dives and learning to use lift bags and ropes. You'll be instructed in the proper, safe procedures for working with lift bags, various knots to use, a variety of search patterns and when to use them. This course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. Included in the $90.00* fee will be the use of the lift bags, ropes, compasses and slates. Special group rates are available. PADI EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST COURSE This course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. Learn exactly how your life support equipment operates. The course covers the basic design and theory of regulators, and includes numerous maintenance tips, and a special "get it back running" field repair clinic. Course includes testing and adjusting each participants regulator. *Course fee: $70. Special group rates are available. DAN O2 PROVIDER COURSE MDA is proud to be a Diver's Alert Network Sponsor, and as such we also offer the DAN Oxygen First Aid Course. This course is designed to help fulfill DAN's mission statement of having oxygen available at every dive site and someone trained in it's use present as well. During this course, we review basic diving physiology, how nitrogen forms bubbles, and how these bubbles contribute to diving emergencies. The use of oxygen as a temporary treatment is part of the class work, along with a discussion of the different types of oxygen delivery equipment that is available today. We actually use oxygen equipment during practice sessions, to make you more confident when a diving emergency does arise. There is no prerequisite for this class other than being CPR certified, which can be done during our Medic First Aid Course. This is a very valuable course for all divers. The DAN Oxygen Provider course gives you hands on experience in the proper administration of oxygen to dive accident victims. DAN, the Divers Alert Network is a non-profit organization affiliated with Duke University Medical hospital. Because of the importance of oxygen during diving emergencies, DAN has developed this course that should be a must for any diver! *Course Fee, $60.00 NIGHT DIVING SPECIALTY COURSE This course can be credited toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. Night diving is the best way to see a completely different aspect of the underwater world. You'll see creatures that you never see during the day. You'll see the actual colors that the reef is composed of as your dive light brings it out. The course includes planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of night diving. Proper procedures for buoyancy control, navigation and communication. Use of dive lights and buddy-system techniques. Disorientation and emergency procedures. Orientation to nocturnal aquatic life. Course includes use of dive light and at least 1 boat dive. *Course fee: $70. Special group rates are available. FIRST AID FOR MARINE LIFE INJURIES This program is open to everyone. We'll be reviewing First Aid procedures, and it's recommended that you are current in First Aid, watching a great video, and going through some scenarios. This will better prepare you for your days at the beach or diving on the reefs.. The program includes the DAN (Diving Accident Network) card, certificate and the PADI distinctive specialty as well. *Course fee: $60.00 *Due to continuous update of manuals and required course materials, there may be an additional charge for these items. AN INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL DIVING This is not a certification class, but if you are interested in learning what all the buzz about Technical diving is, come give it a whirl. Classroom session in the morning and dive to 150' on an intro TEK dive in the afternoon. Must be Rescue and Nitrox certified with at least one hundred dives. Students will need to bring standard dive gear and the rest will be provided. Course fee: $95. Special group rates are available.
