Dumaguete, known as the "City of Gentle People", is the capital of the Negros Oriental province in the Central Visayas, located at the southeastern tip of Negros Island. Most 'Dumaguete' dive resorts are actually located in the smaller town of Dauin, about 20min south of the capital. This region, and the rest of the Philippines, falls within the famous Coral Triangle, recognized as the world's center of marine biodiversity. This region is home to over 3,000 species of fish and six of the world's seven marine turtle species. In Dumaguete you'll also be a boat ride away from one of the few places it's possible to snorkel with the ocean's gentlest giants, whale sharks.
