TELL A STORY: None of the following pix would win any awards, but who cares.  Take pix to enjoy looking at them and showing them to family and friends!   On to the dive:

ESTABLISH WHERE YOU ARE: Try taking a "look down" shot, then take a series of closer shots from different angles, finishing up with a pix of what the photographer is shooting.  This establishes where the dive was, gives a feeling of "depth" and then gets more specific as to exactly what the photographer is doing.

On wide shots you can get away with shooting downward, but DON'T do it on close-up shots.

Same idea.  Downward shots are OK from time to time to establish, but be careful with this.  Once you get down use upward angled shots.

The first pix shows one of the crevices at Pete's from above to give an idea how big, long, etc. The next two show going underneath the reef "inside" the crevice.  Notice that by letting the light rays reflect off the bottom that you get a very pleasing pix.

The pix of the turkeyfish was underneath one of the coral overhangs at another area, but you could easily include as part of the crevice sequence.

CONSIDER THIS GOSPEL: For close-up pix ALWAYS try for upward angled shots, and fill some of the background with nothing but water!    These pix were all taken in avail light with a color filter over the lens, and with any reasonable strobe they would look much better.

WHERE IS THE SUN? I moved around so that the sunlight was a little above and behind the coral to give it more light on the top.  I took about 6 shots, but deleted all but these.  For other shots put the sun slightly behind you to bring out the colors more.
