Visiting Military Units Student Information

How long is the course and when does it meet? Courses are arranged to meet the schedule of the students, but the minimum time is 3 days, two full days for all water training, and one full day for classroom activities. These are combined over the three days. Because the course is compressed, all students must attend all sessions for certification.

Note: As the Navy Exchange Dive Center operator we are authorized to teach the classroom sessions onboard if there are suitable accommodations for the class.

What is included in the course fee?  The PADI student Kit, all academic and open water instruction, all equipment, your certification as a PADI Open Water Diver. As the highest rated facility on Guam we also include the use of a dive computer during the course.

PADI eLearningComplete some of the course online before you get here! We are proud to be able to offer visiring units an online option for the academic portion of the PADI open water diver course. This option is called eLearning. Through eLearning students can enroll on-line at either at the below link or at www.padi.com and complete the academic portion at the leisure. The major benefit to the student diver is convenience!

Students can progress at their own pace and schedule during their online class. Throughout the course MDA can monitor your progress and is available to answer any questions, via email, that arise during the course. Once the online academics have been completed the only thing left is diving!!!! The student will print out an academic completion form and bring into the dive shop. We will then arrange a course for the student to complete their water work. The water work portion can be completed in either a private course or in a group course.

An additional benefit is that the water work portion of the course can be completed in as little as two days! Thus making eLearning an ideal option for those future divers with limited availability. There is a $120 fee online to start the process. This fee is factored into the total course cost to the student. Remember to associate with Micronesian Divers Association on Guam when registering with eLearning. Please contact us for more details about this program and for current course pricing.

Is transportation included in the cost of the course?  Yes. For any groups of 4 or more we will provide transportation to and from your location at no charge*.  *There is a slight charge per person for all units not on the Naval Station or Polaris Point areas.

Are there student discounts? You also receive a special student discount on purchases while you are in the course.

Are there any additional charges? You can either rent or purchase your mask, snorkel, fins, and boots for the course.  Since these items are highly personalized and are available at very reduced prices, we highly recommend you purchase these items. These will be needed throughout your diving career.

You also will need two passport-size photographs to be used for your PADI Open Water Certification card. There are no other charges.

What are the swimming requirements? Obviously, all divers must be comfortable in the water. You will be asked to demonstrate your ability to swim 200 yards (non-timed) and to float or tread water for 10 minutes.

Are there any medical considerations? You must be in good mental and physical condition. Please review the separate medical questionnaire which can be downloaded here.
