Who should take this course?
Ready to explore Guam’s underwater world? The PADI Open Water Diver course is your first step toward becoming a certified scuba diver. You’ll learn essential diving skills, build confidence in the water, and earn a certification recognized worldwide.
No previous scuba experience is required. Participants must be at least 10 years old, have basic swimming skills, and be in good physical health.
What Will You Learn?
The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
- Knowledge Development: Learn the fundamentals of safe scuba diving.
- Confined-Water Training: Practice essential skills with an MDA instructor.
- Open-Water Dives: Put your skills into action while exploring Guam’s underwater world.
Start Learning Online
Begin with MDA ePerks; complete the academic portion at your own pace. Then visit MDA for hands-on training with one of our experienced PADI instructors.
What Gear Will You Use?
In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device, dive computer, and a scuba tank. We’ll help you select the proper equipment and make sure you’re comfortable using it.

Once enrolled, you’ll receive an email with instructions for accessing your online course. Complete the academic portion on your schedule, then meet with an MDA Instructor for your confined-water and open-water training.
Learning online gives you flexibility—but becoming a diver happens in the water. Our experienced instructors will help you develop the skills, confidence, and sound diving habits needed to dive safely and comfortably.
